It was my nephew, Patrick's, graduation party today. It was a beautiful day, not too hot, and very summery in every way. It was nice seeing and talking to Patrick (and everyone else). He has grown up to be an exceptional young man. I wish him the best of luck. I made him stand still for me so I could take his picture.

Rick, Jane and Aunt Tilly came up from Rochester. Now Aunt Til is officially on the Internet.

Jessie and her friend Molly had to do a little posing. Is this the 'thoughtful' look?

Jessie can smile. Here's proof.

I needed to put up a nice shot of Pat and JR. I thought this was a nice one until I saw that there is something else in the background.

Jim (Mr Goofy in the above photo) rode with me on the way back. We stopped at Lake Maria State Park to look around a little. Jim, also known as 'Old Eagle Eye - The Deer Hunter', spotted these two fawns and I was able to get a couple of shots. I am constantly amazed by what a person sees if they just get out and look around a little. And the camera makes it possible to remember what you saw.

We also got a chance to see a couple of geese families that were out for a little swim. It looked nice in the golden sun.

And finally, we saw this 'fishing type' bird by a pond. This is really a way blown up poor picture, but I originally posted it to see if anyone knew what kind of bird this was. With the kind help of Anthony Hertzel of the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union (MOU), I found out that this is a 'Green Heron'. It is about 8 to 10 inches tall. Click here for a link to the USGS site about them.
Unknown Bird

This silly bird did get my attention. Here is another shot from way to far away.

It is time for me to think about re-arranging this site a little. Originally I wanted to do my wildflower page and other 'project' type pages. Then it seemed that there are so many different things to photograph that I never really focused on just one topic. So hopefully over the next week or two, we'll get this re-organized a little.

Today is the first day of summer, and I had to go out and get a shot of the full moon. I used my 75-300 mm zoom lens at 300 mm with the doubler. At the 1.4 ratio of digital to the old film 35mm cameras, this would be equivalent to an 840 mm lens shot. My lenses are consumer grade, not real expensive, but I think this still turned out 'good enough'. Maybe I will get a converter and hook the camera up to my telescope some time. Let me know what you think....

There were severe thunderstorm warnings out for this evening, so I thought 'Time to get some really good Lightning pictures'. Well, I got quite wet, but didn't see too much lightning. Here is some wimpy stuff:
