Jul 31, 2005 - Sun
I went out to the Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge by Princeton this evening. I took a lot of shots, but was surprised when I got back and downloaded them to find that a lot didn't turn out, at least not how I though they would. And I have been goofing around a long time with these so will only post two for now, which is by far not the shots I thought I would be posting here, but it is what you get <grin>. I call this Armageddon. (It is really sunset and some dead trees.)

And here are what I thought were some pretty cool looking clouds.

Jul 30, 2005 - Sat
I took Jim along up to the Off Road Vehicle area near Pine River today. We thought we would get some good pictures, but the woods were so thick and the trails so narrow that there wasn't anything to take pictures of. So I took a picture of the Jeep.

There were lots of great puffy clouds this afternoon. They always remind me of summers when I was growing up on the farm. So I went out to Quarry Park after work. I will post a couple of these. They probably aren't the best shots, but I love the clouds. These shots overlook the restored prairie area at Quarry Park.

Jul 24, 2005 - Sun
I was going to head up to Pine River to check out the off road Jeep trails both yesterday and today. But, I got sidetracked both days. So Jim and I are planning on going one evening this coming week. I stopped at Crow Wing State Park by Brainerd on my way up there today and that's as far as I got. It turned out to be a bug hunt day. Some bugs and butterflies follow...
I kind of like this one... My first 'Butterfly In Flight' picture (that actually kind of turned out, the little buggers are fast):

And a black dragonfly. Kind of wierd.

And another butterfly:

And here's a butterfly with 'eyes' on it's wings:

Jul 9, 2005 - Sat
It was Rockville Days, (in Rockville, MN of course), so I met Troy, Sandy, Terry and Ann at the Bayou to take in the festivities. Tom and Janet also were there, along with lots of other people we know.

One of the first people we saw was Randy (who also works for us as his regular day job), working part time behind the outdoor beer stand. I don't know how he knew that I prefer Miller Lite <grin>.

It is funny what you see at these summer festivals. This guy was just hanging out in front of Stoney's Bar.

And I do mean 'hanging out'. I thought the earring was a nice touch.

Here are a couple of Rockville Cowboys. I was happy to see that they also carry Miller Lite and were heading right toward me <grin>.

If you have never been to the Bayou Bar in Rockville, here is a photo of it. (I know, I know, they are going to change the sign soon.)

Jul 8, 2005 - Fri
There were only four working days last week (after the Fourth of July) but it seemed like 8 days <grin>. So it was nice that the week ended up with a party to go to. It was a surprise party for Taran's 30th birthday.

Here's a shot of the birthday girl. Did they say she is 30?

And Mike, looking very cool as usual...

I think Marvin and Troy were having a good time.

And Sherri and Brian also looked like they were enjoying the party...

Jim wasn't looking so I took his picture...

And I managed to get a shot of Tyra that I thought turned out pretty nice...

Jul 5, 2005 - Tue
For those of you who have been here before, you will notice some changes to the look of this site. But now I have a bunch of changes to make to fix everything up. So please bear with me over the next week or so. (Jason, if you are reading this, HELP!)

Jul 4, 2005 - Mon
It was the annual evening for fireworks at Jim's tonight. He had a nice turnout. Everybody who is anybody was there. Here is one that I think is interesting. Everyone was sitting at the picnic table just before dark. I was 9:45 PM. So it was much to dark to take a pictures without flash. But if I used a long exposure, (10 seconds) it looks like daylight. The only difference is the orange streak going across the picture. That is JR walking behind with a flashlight. You can't see him because he is moving and doesn't register. (Cheap fireworks, huh?) Maybe next year I can convince him to jump off the garage roof or something more spectacular.

First a few shots of the participants in this Independence Day party. Here are Patti, Tom and Janet seated at the picnic table. I had to do a little bit of cropping so the 'pop' cans didn't show in the picture. I think the flower Janet is wearing in her hair really gives this shot a touch of class <grin>.

And I really like this shot. Anna is just the cutest little thing!

Erika and her friends were having a good time...

And here is a shot of Ben. It is up to you to figure it out.

What is the 4th without watermelon?

And here are Jim and Terry being very cool just by standing still <grin>.

I haven't had time to go through the fireworks shots. But here are a few that I liked. (Maybe more to follow..)

Jul 3, 2005 - Sun
Jim said he hadn't seen a pelican for a while, so I took him with me on a road trip to the western part of the state to find some. We put on a lot of miles. When I got to his house to pick him up, I could see he was ready and waiting...

Here is a shot overlooking the Minnesota River just before you get to Granite Falls.

Here are a couple of pelicans. These two had just each caught a fish at the same time and were gulping them down together. Weird birds <grin>.

I should have done some of the other shots first, but I was checking out the Phase One Conversion LE program on a couple of goose pictures. So here are two shots from today of Canada Geese 'families'. In the first one the kids are just about grown up, teenager size.

In this one, the kids are still in grade school. Cute little buggers.

And this is the 'end of the day' shot. Sunset on our way home, looking across the prairie...

Here is a shot of one of Jim's flowers. He is quite the gardener. A shot of a yellow one is coming tomorrow.
