I went out to the Sand Prairie Wildlife Management Area after work today. Took lots of pictures and I will put some up here tonight. You can go to the page here or use the new link on the left.
This is a sunset picture at Sand Prairie. The Cottonwood tree in the picture may be as much as 100 years old...

This is a cool weed that I took a picture of at Sand Prairie:

It was really windy outside this afternoon. When I was out by the river it was 33ºF and the wind was gusting at times to 35 mph. The temperature wasn't that low, but I have never been colder since I started this photo project. The wind is amazing.

I was on the wrong side of the goofy ducks again to get good light. I'll put a goose picture up here but didn't really get any good photos.

This is a closeup of the feathers on the above goose's back. They are very clear on my computer. I wanted to see how they would come out after compressing and uploading to the web site.

Here are a couple more pictures from my outing today. I have been experimenting with seeing how much you can enlarge the pictures without losing the resolution, and then seeing what they look like after they are uploaded.
This is the closeup: (The picture after this is the original)

Well, I have been working on this long enough today. The sun has come out so I think I will head down to the Quarry Park and check it out, and then maybe the river again. I need to get some good pictures so I have something to put up here.

I decided to add a list on the right of 'new items'. These are the latest changes I have made so if and when you do look at this you will see what has been changed lately

March 14, 2004 8:10 AM - Sun
Well there were no photo opportunities yesterday. Gloomy all day. And today is starting out the same. We will see. I did make some changes to this site yesterday, the main one was adding the 'Top Ten' page. To see it, click on the 'Top Ten Photos' box to the right. Right now they are really not very 'Top Ten' quality pictures, but it will be my place to try to someday have at least 10 good ones.

I've been trying to work with making the pages work with different screen resolutions. Viewing the top ten photos in full size should work for whatever screen resolution you have your computer set for. If you have any problems or things look goofy, email me and let me know.

It's Saturday morning and it looks like I'll have time to work on these pages for a while today. It is overcast and 34º outside. Not a good picture day.

March 10, 2004 8:34 PM - Wed

I went up to Little Rock Lake north of Sauk Rapids this afternoon. Five photos follow...

I had to upload this one of clouds at sunset. It probably isn't the best photo, but I am constantly amazed at how God and nature can so easily create beautiful art that we work so hard to copy:

This was taken with the sun setting just off to the right. I think the dark tree trunks give a nice stark look in front of the sunset:

This large flock of ducks took off when I was setting up for sunset pictures. I did not have the telephoto lens on the camera at the time, but the large number of ducks in the sky looks good against the sunset:

I took quite a few pictures of these two Canada geese as they swam around. I like this one the best. They are looking at each other as they head into the sunset. (The actual photo is quite a bit clearer. The small file size image I use for this page loses some of the quality.)

One more sunset photo, I can't help it!

March 9, 2004 9:20 PM - Tue
I went out to the same spot by the river after work today. I am learning a little more about how to use my camera. Will be boring you with duck pictures the next few days while I experiment. Here are two that I will show you:

Following is the best I could do today. An eagle picture:

The rock I sit on while waiting for duck, geese and eagle pictures. Hopefully someone will comment on this:

The sun has come out nicely today after it snowed this morning. Thinking about checking out the ducks and geese again after work today.

March 7, 2004 9:45 PM - Sun

I spent 3 hours sitting by the Mississippi River this afternoon freezing to death. Out of 200 photos here is the only one I think is even close to good. Canada Geese in formation. I did see an eagle today when I was out by the river, but I was not very close. However, the picture following the geese is my first eagle picture..

I added some more links to pictures mostly as a test of how to convert them and upload them for web pages. Also set up links on the left for projects and picture pages. Some work, some don't. Will take a little time to get the all set up. Time for bed pretty soon. You can check out Bernie's, Jim's, Jason's and Kathy's pages.

March 6, 2004 6:54 PM - Sat

A program called Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0 came with my camera as part of the software that was bundled with it. It has an option to create a Web Photo Gallery. After trying it, I decided I liked the ThumbHTML v2.7 better.

March 6, 2004 1:19 PM - Sat

I have been testing a program called ThumbHTML v2.7. Click on the dog below to see how it works. I am not totally impressed. But after working with some of the other options, it is the one I am going to use (at least for the time being). The going is tough. But I shall keep trying..

March 6, 2004 10:34 AM - Sat

I have been reading about web stuff all morning. Cloudy and gloomy outside so no chance of going out to do photos. So I might as well keep working on this. I wrote for info to the webmaster at astound on using a database. Will have to wait for a reply, so I might as well start fixing up these pages and try to get a few photos up here.

March 5, 2004 11:49 PM - Fri

This has been a long day. Jason helped me out a lot with learning about Web databases and scripting languages. Tomorrow (Sat) I will try to learn about getting a database set up. Then I should be able to do some interesting things with this site.

The following is my 'bridge picture'. Will post a good version without the goofy borders soon.
