I went out to Sand Prairie for a few hours this afternoon. It was fun to get back into the real swampy/marsh area and I found some good spots for future outings. Following is the best pic I could come up with today, another sunset photo:

Time to make some changes. This front page is getting too big. So I have decided to only keep two weeks of posts here. I will link the older entries to another page. I will be working on this. I updated/activated Jason's, Jenny's and Tom's pages.

Well, it has been a couple of busy days. I've been out a couple of times to get more photos and have been trying to get through all of them and the pictures from Tom's fun birthday party. So below are a couple of pics from the last few days.

Tom's Birthday
I have 168 photos from Tom's party. I know it is getting so this page takes a long time to load if you have a phone connection, but I am going to put up two pics from his party. Since it was Tom's birthday, they all have him in them. I still trying to figure out how to get some of the pictures to everyone else. I will be thinking about that. Click here for more photos.

I also found out I could get a few pics that aren't too bad even on cloudy and rainy days. He is a new 'weed' picture. (Really these are tree buds. This Bud's For You!) I think it looks a lot better full size if you want to take the time to look at it.

Thanks to Myron Janssen, the winner of the duck identification contest. He correctly identified the following duck as a Common Goldeneye. Check out the Ducks Unlimited page for more information.

I've been gone since last Wednesday, so time to update this. I went to the Chicago area to meet with some of our dealers. It took longer than I thought and I didn't get back until late Friday evening, and then there was just enough time to get to Tom's 50th birthday party. I took a couple of photos when I was gone, but didn't really have any time to get serious about it. And I took a lot of pictures at Tom's party. It was a very good time. Will get some of the pics up here today sometime.

I had to stay at work late today as I am leaving for Chicago tomorrow morning. No photos today, but it was a beautiful sun set. I will post more on Thursday when I get back.

After work Jim, Erika and Savanna went out to Sand Prairie when I did and hiked around. I took over 100 photos, mostly of the sunset as I was experimenting with the camera again. Here are the intrepid hikers:

The pussy willows are blooming (I think that's what you call it) So I had to take a picture so I can add it to my plant collection. Patti was helpful enough to send me the following information: "The pussy willow seldom grows taller than 20 feet.  It has many long straight twigs without side branches.  The twigs of the pussy willow have many flower buds on them.  Early in the spring before the leaves unfold, the flower clusters break out of the hard buds.  The clusters are called Catkins.   They are long and round and covered with a dense coat of silky, grayish-white hair.  Later the catkins develop into larger loose masses covered with yellow pollen, before they form seeds or are shed by the tree."

And a sunset picture from today:

Jim and I traveled north along the river road by the Mississippi this afternoon. We took the GPS along to see how it worked. Maybe a couple of photos to follow when I get them up here.

Well I got in a few hours with the camera the last few days. I went to the river on Thursday but nothing too spectacular. Yesterday I went out to Sand Prairie again. A few photos follow. It looks like it will be at least partly sunny today. I think I'll try to fix up the web site this morning and go out to Quarry Park this afternoon.
I seem to be taking a lot of pictures of 'weeds' out at Sand Prairie. I know this is a milkweed plant. I put a shadow around this one to make it more 'artsy'. I can't help playing with all the photo editing tools. Here is the photo, I think the full size image looks better:

I kind of like this sunset. There were absolutely no clouds, but the sky turned very red:

Yesterday was really bad. Snowed about an inch last night. But the sun was out again today, and I went out to Quarry Park after work. You can check out Stearns County's web page about the park here. It is very interesting, and I am looking forward to hiking through it in the spring and summer, but it is not the best place for late in the day photos. I'll post more about it the next time I go. But there were no good photo ops today. So, two days gone by, and not one good picture. We'll see what happens tomorrow.
