Why PhotoMove?
When you copy photos from a phone, camera, or memory card, Windows often shows the wrong date — the day you copied the files, not the day you took the pictures. Mix in years of shots from different devices and you can end up with one big messy folder.
PhotoMove reads the real date taken from each photo or video and puts it into a clean dated folder for you. Birthdays, holidays, and trips become easy to find again. No subscription, and nothing uploads to the cloud — it just runs on your Windows PC.
It is not an AI photo library or an all-in-one “suite.” It is a focused Windows utility for the job most people actually need first: get files into the right dated folders, safely, with a clear report of what happened.
Use Free or Pro?
Free sorts your photos and videos into dated folders — with no per-batch file cap. In PhotoMove 2.5.4, Free also includes:
- Preview before Copy or Move — review destinations before anything changes (on by default in the latest download)
- Undo Last Copy/Move — reverse the last completed batch in the same session (not a full history; does not restore files overwritten at the destination)
- Google Takeout JSON sort — when EXIF is missing, use dates from Google Takeout sidecar files (runs on your PC; PhotoMove does not talk to Google online)
Pro ($8.99, one-time) includes everything in Free, plus:
- Handle duplicates — skip, rename, overwrite, or move them to a duplicates folder (by file name or exact file contents)
- Handle missing EXIF dates — use the file date, or send those files to a folder you choose (separate from Google Takeout JSON sort, which is Free)
- Choose more preset folder layouts — Year/Month, Year only, camera-based structures, and other fixed dropdown options
- Custom folder templates — build your own path with tokens such as
{YYYY},{MM}, and{Camera} - Write recovered Google Takeout date into the file — so other programs see the correct date taken

How PhotoMove:
1. Handles duplicates
Decide what counts as a duplicate — matching file names, or matching EXIF plus exact file contents.
Then choose what happens: skip, rename with -Copy###, overwrite, or send duplicates to a folder you pick.
2. Handles missing EXIF dates
Not every photo has a usable EXIF date taken — scans, edits, and some phone exports are common examples.
Pro can fall back to the file date for structured folders, or send those files to a folder you choose.
3. Lets you choose more folder layouts
Free covers basic date sorting. Pro adds layouts like Year/Month, Year only, and camera-model based folders.
Pick the structure that matches how you browse — trips by month, archives by year, or cameras kept separate.

I really like your software. It’s very well made and simple. I have numerous folder of files, videos and photos copied as backups of my smartphones over the years. The files are on my laptop’s partitions, external hard drives and cloud drives. So I am making an absolute, definitive folder containing subfolders organised by year. This software is amazing. I was able to organize over 500 gigs worth of a mess in a handful of hours. Easily identified duplicates and deleted them and I feel I can once again enjoy my photos folder. I even had an issue arise and was able to get a response in just a few minutes
